Research has shown that the relationship between bed occupancy rates and absent employees concludes nursing assistants working in units 10 percent more crowded than the optimal rate had twice as much depression than their colleagues in lesser crowded units. Also, those working in hospitals are more likely to miss work than those working in other medical settings. Especially when the hospital is large and overcrowded. Two new studies have suggested that employees working in hospitals are much more susceptible to become depressed than the ones working in clinics, schools or in home health care facilities. It has been determined that Nursing Assistants being absent from work generally suffer from depression.

This shift has led to the increase in demand of this position.
